Three Good Eyes East
Driving East from Richland, with Three Good Eyes on the road ahead
Conor had surgery a few days ago before we left on this adventure. He was going to be trapped in the house for a couple of weeks. That means it’s time for a road trip! I took off Friday afternoon to pick up Conor for this totally impromptu excursion with no destination in mind.
As usual, with our trips, we have no idea what we will find. All we know at this point is we are heading into Idaho. Thinking that we might make it to Yellowstone National Park, we made a couple calls ahead for rooms. The park was operating at 20% capacity, so they were booked solid. I told Conor to call places in West Yellowstone and we found a room available at the Springhill Suites. $800 per night was the kicker to not go to Yellowstone. Next time. So we headed towards Butte Montana instead. I was planning on showing him some of his family history.
The Snake River, Idaho.
Our first stop along the way was here at the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater rivers.
Heart of the Monster, Idaho.
This stop told the story of the Nez Perce creation. A monster had to be defeated and the parts of him were scattered all over the region. The heart is buried here. People were created from the other parts of the monster.
The Clearwater River, Idaho.
We had a nice time stopping off at some of the roadside attractions. Rivers are one of our favorites to stop and stretch the legs.
White Bird Hill Pass
I rode my bicycle up that twisty, never ending hill back in 1982. It seemed like it took forever, but I made it. I was happy to be able to share that memory with Conor.
Conor, Wading In
This is an extremely shallow area of the lake. The water was teaming with “Sea Monkeys” also known as Brine Shrimp.
Knee Deep in The Great Salt Lake
Warm and inviting waters. If you can get past the shrimp that are everywhere.
The Utah Hotel
This is the hotel that my Great-Grandmother and Great-Grandfather spent their honeymoon in. A little history to share with my son.
Giant Whales Overhead
Conor and I spent a full eight hours exploring and taking in the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium.
Golden Discus
This is a Cichlid from the Amazon Basin. You can buy these at most aquarium stores now. They were fairly rare when I was raising fish.
Bright Green Lizard
I can’t remember what this is , but it is super green and I was able to get a good photo of it.
The Green Iguana
This one was pretty big. I remember a couple of friends having Iguanas as pets when I was younger.
